These are the wise words Andrea Grijalba said in an interview in November 2013 when she was our Business Operations Specialist in the Andean Region. Since then, Andrea has moved up the corporate ladder at Neomobile becoming our Andean Countries Manager based in Colombia. Check out her original interview below!
How did you get involved with Neomobile?
My experience at Neomobile started in Rome, the moment I finished my MBA. That’s when I was contacted by Neomobile’s Human Resources through my Linkedin page. They asked me to participate in a selection process for an on-line Marketing position in the Andean Region, specifically in Colombia. I remember perfectly that I felt very excited because as a Colombian living in another country, this meant I had an opportunity to continue my professional career. It was the perfect job. Not only was the job related to my profession and home country, but the company was also Italian…very exciting!!!
What is your experience with the mobile phone sector?
My experience with the mobile sector starts in Colombia in 2005, when I worked for El Centro de Investigación de las Telecomunicaciones (Center of Telecommunication Investigations). In the years after, I completely changed sectors, and in 2011, I join the mobile industry again with Neomobile, first in the marketing aspect and then in business operations. This is my current position at Neomobile today.
What are the positive aspects of working for a Company like Neomobile?
There are many positive aspects. The ones that have impacted my experience here the most would have to be the multicultural environment, the flexibility, and continuous learning. I saw the importance of multiculturalism when I began working in Rome. It meant having the possibility to share and confront ideas, thoughts, cultures and different ways of working from around the globe. Flexibility is important because in this business, we experience many changes within the industry – not just in terms of products but also in the way we get things done. What may have worked before, might not anymore under a new Business reality. I also find continuous learning important because in order to grow in a Company, you need to be able to grow with it.
What is the most interesting project you have worked on?
I wouldn’t be able to pick just one work Project. I could say that each day at work is more interesting than the last. This factor has an impact on the company’s results. Neomobile has taught me that Business is dynamic and changes, which means that our activities and decisions work the same way.
What do you like most about Neomobile?
What I like most about Neomobile is the importance they give to each of their corporate values. I firmly believe that they determine the way we work both on a personal and working level.
What is the future of mobile?
I think that there are still thousands of possibilities in terms of development and growth. If you think back 18 years ago, when I was still in school, I remember that the idea of localization using cell phones was fascinating. I couldn’t have imagined the mobile phone and internet’s true potential. Without a doubt, it has changed the way we communicate. If I look at the past, present and future, I can only think that each day we are experiencing continuous development and competition in the tech industry, which is opening doors to unlimited possibilities to improve the quality of our lives.
What is the most important thing you’ve been able to achieve while working for Neomobile?
An achievement that has impacted my career at Neomobile was when I participated in the start-up of our office in Colombia. The experience was indescribable; starting with the search for a physical office to the start of the Business and all the activities you go through when you start a business. I don’t just see it as an achievement but as a learning experience i will always take with me in my professional career.
What are your personal goals at Neomobile?
My main goal is to continuously learn, not just about my sector, but also my skills, as well as learning from my mistakes.
What do you recommend to people who want to work at Neomobile?
I think that those who want to work at Neomobile need to be open to change, diversity, be proactive and should want to make a difference.
